 The Rider-Waite Tarot, published in December 1909, is one of the most popular esoteric card decks in the world. Over the years, this version of the tarot has become known by various names: Rider-Waite-Smith, Waite-Smith, Waite-Colman Smith, or simply the Rider Tarot. The artist Pamela Colman Smith designed the images following the directions of Arthur Rider Waite. The symbolism present in the cards was derived from the work of the 19th-century occultist Eliphas Levi. The prints are deceptively simple and almost childlike, yet they are full of symbolism.
